Marti Heard Designs, Vendor Spotlight, Floral Designers in Cincinnati, Cincinnati FloristIf you’ve followed along with any of my blogs, you probably know how obsessed I am with flowers. I believe good flowers can tie your colors together, add texture, act as a timeless prop, and speak the overall feeling of your day into your pictures. Good flowers MAKE your pictures.

With that little preface, I would not take lightly who to feature as my Floral Designer in this Vendor Spotlight series. Marti Heard Designs is one of the top florists in the Cincinnati area, and I get SO excited when I hear my brides have decided to hire her, because I just know the flowers are going to be on point.

Marti is so likable, which is important with any of your wedding vendors. You spend a really stressful time in your life with these people, you want to find vendors that you enjoy being around. She is funny, laid back, creative, and a million other good things (which is why she stays friends with so many of her clients after their wedding).

Most importantly, though, is her attention to detail and style. Style is something very personal, so Marti takes the time to get to know her clients, and hear their vision. She doesn’t take it lightly that she is styling one of the most important days of their life. As a client of Marti Heard Designs, you are designed your very own style inspiration board, to make sure you are on the same page.

I interviewed Marti for this blog and here is what she had to say! 🙂

Megan: Tell us about yourself

Marti: I am Marti Heard of Marti Heard Designs, formerly Marti’s Floral Designs. I am a mom, a stylist and a lover of pistols & stamens. I love to basically make things look pretty! Especially with flowers. So if I am not taking a kid to soccer, I am taking some flowers to an event. I have had a great ride so far with my company. The proudest moment this year was being featured on Martha Stewart Weddings for a wedding that I did last year in Croatia.

Megan: How did you get started into being a floral designer?

Marti: When I graduated from college my big girl job I was wait for it…  a probation officer. I think I was good at it. I actually loved being one but decided after my second child was born, that I would stay at home with the kids. Well being a stay at home mom is the hardest job anyone can ever have. I found any reason to have any sort of party. And just trying to have something to fill my creativity on the weekends ended up being a full time job quickly. And here I am 8 years later still making pretty flowers. I am tired a lot but I am surrounded by pretty.

Megan: Why do you love your job?

Marti: I love flowers because for the most part every week can be different. Every event is different. I cannot sit still in one place doing the same thing over and over. I have been beyond blessed with great clients that allow me the space to be creative and bring their events to life with flowers. I have gone from being a probation officer where you are in someone’s life at their worst to weddings where you are with them at their happiest. I guess you can say that I like to serve people.

Megan: What is your favorite design to create?

Marti: My favorite thing to make is the bridal bouquet. It is THE statement piece of the whole wedding. It is what brides hold on to while they nervously walk to their groom. I love a good textured bouquet. My favorite time of year for flowers is Spring. I love that one flower that was perfect at that time of year for their wedding can make it look completely different from everyone else’s.

Megan: Tell us about life as an entrepreneur

Marti: God it is hard running your own business. And that is an understatement. There is no book on how to do things. You just have to trust your gut and go with it. I have done that, for the most part, and it has lead me to where I am now. There have been many lessons along the way. But some of my biggest failures have been the ways that I have gotten better. At the end of the day you have to remain humble and know that you don’t poop rose petals. With social media, it is so hard to not compare yourself to other vendors. Just worry about doing a good job for yourself and support others to be their best too! It is not only about talent. It is about being kind, supportive, flexible and humor always helps too.

Marti is my baby daughter. When she little she would drag a chair to the kitchen counter and prepare a gorgeous salad. She would not eat it because she did not like vegetables. I cannot tell you how many dishes from the china hutch were broken as she would set the table that any queen would love. She is very talented.
