The Secrets To Perfect Outdoor Ceremony

There is nothing I love more than an outdoor ceremony.

Having an outdoor ceremony will allow for the kind of personalization that many indoor venues cannot offer. If you love flowers, you can turn your outdoor ceremony into a floral-draped dream. If your style is more DIY, you can build your own rustic alter. Whatever your theme or style, you can totally personalize an outdoor ceremony to fit your taste.

There are some things you need to do to ensure your wedding’s outdoor ceremony goes off without a hitch!

1. Make sure to go check out the ceremony location at the time of day you’ll be getting married.

Look for consistent shade, like in the pictures above! This way, you’ll make sure you aren’t squinting, sweating, or speckled with light throughout your ceremony. Nothing will take away from your pictures quicker than if your groom has a big sunspot on his face the entire ceremony! Even ask your photographer for recommendations on which part of the venue will have the best lighting!

2. Have a backup plan.

No one likes to consider rain on their wedding day, but it’s a possibility. Even if you hate the idea of a tent, don’t hesitate to think outside the box. Maybe you provide clear umbrella’s to your guests, or just plan to be flexible with your ceremony time. A great planner can help you talk through your options!

3. Personalize, Personalize, Personalize!

Because an outdoor ceremony is such a blank slate, it’s important to make sure you take the time to do it up right to avoid it just looking blank. A wonderful florist will help you brainstorm ideas for bringing your color scheme and flowers as part of the theme. A great rental company can rent gorgeous and unique chairs that solidify that theme!

Hi Megan, as a bride to be in the early stages of planning an outdoor wedding, this is extremely helpful 🙂 Where did you shoot this location? The old architecture is stunning!

This was at a Chateau in Beaune, France! It’s called Chateau De Varennes! The owner told us it had been in his family for 400 years! ????
