Light Parade Films | Vendor Spotlight

Susan is the owner, and videographer behind Light Parade Films. I actually worked with her the first time this year, and it was like that scene from Step-Brothers:

“Did we just become best friends?”
“YUP.”

Besides being super hilarious and refreshingly authentic, she is incredibly talented, easy to work with and makes gorgeous wedding videos. When you hire Light Parade Films, you are getting Susan, and her artistic eye. She doesn’t work from templates, or have a set music list. She doesn’t have teams under her business name, so she can guarantee her quality. Each film is made uniquely, tailored to fit her client’s story. She really prides herself on letting the personality of her clients dictate the story that she tells.

I asked Susan to guest blog a bit of her story for this Vendor Spotlight! Here is what she had to say!

Have you ever had something completely unexpected fall in your lap and you just decide to go with it?

OMG me too!

First, a little bit about me. I am older on the outside than I am on the inside, which is a cruel joke if you ask me. “Yesterday” I was running audio for rock bands and dating my way through the local music scene. Somehow I woke up today with seven-year-old twins, a husband, a minivan and a house in the burbs. Somewhere along the way, I started a little business by accident, and it turned out to be the best idea I never had.

I, myself, tied the knot in 2008. At the time I was working in corporate audio-visual specializing in audio, but beginning to dabble in video as well. I LOVED my wedding, and I am so happy I have gorgeous photos with which to remember our wedding day. I do not, however, have a video. We were on a tight budget and I did not realize the importance of hiring someone to film the big day. What I did end up with is a twenty-five second video clip of the most magical surprise moment of the day. Once I laid eyes on it, I knew I had made a dreadful mistake.

The following month, a good friend was also getting married and had no wedding videographer. I borrowed a video camera from work and followed her around all day. My very first wedding film was my gift to her. In the following months, I gifted a handful of friends a wedding video of their own (thereby saving a bundle on wedding gifts). Things just took off from there. People started coming out of the woodwork asking me to create a wedding video for them. Along the way I made a few very valuable connections with other kind wedding industry folks and before I knew it my little business was off the ground.

Imagine that every time you go to work, you are surrounded by people so joyous and full of love, that you can’t help but soak up that vibe and feel it yourself. There are so many reasons why I love the wedding industry, but that is the stand-out for me. Like most, I am profoundly affected by the mood of those who surround me. My work environment is overflowing with happiness every time I show up. Not only do I have the opportunity to connect with that feeling, but I get to capture it and return it to my clients to relive whenever the mood strikes them.
I have always had an entrepreneurial spirit, or rather I am not the type to be told what to do. There have been several “ventures” over the years, with a lot of bartending and serving tables in between. I find it a bit ironic that the venture that stuck is the one that found me instead of the other way around. Life can be funny that way.

Seriously, if you need a videographer for your wedding, you have got to give Susan a call! 🙂
