More Than My Career

For those of you who don’t know, I am currently on maternity leave. Earlier this month, Brian and I welcomed our sweet first born into the world. We’re so in love, but that’s not the point of this post.

Among the sleepless nights, and the countless happy/terrified tears, I’ve had a lot of time to think about life. Watch out, it’s ‘bout to get deep in here! 😉

Working from home, I feel like I don’t have a lot to talk about that is super relatable. Most of my stories are centered around one central theme – I am a photographer and an entrepreneur.

But that’s not all that I am. I am a wife, and now, too, a mother – which is still weird to say. I’m a friend, a daughter, and a sister. I’m a Christian, a feminist, and a science geek.

I’m more than my career.
I have to remind myself of that.

I think this little nugget has made me really consider the importance I have placed on my identity. At the end of my life, do I want people to say “Man, she took really great pictures.” or “She was a person who loved like Christ.”?

So as apart of this reevaluation, things might look a little different. I have started a personal Instagram. I needed a place to be me, without the pressure of only posting the “pretty” parts of life. I will also be posting more personally on my blog. I want my voice to be authentic, and sharing more than just images or advice on growing your business. I want to explore other topics that are important to me.

If you want to come along this journey with me, I’d love it. Where do you find your identity? Is there anything you want to change?
