Get Your Wedding Published

Recently, I’ve had a few brides express the desire to get their wedding published by major publications. Whether you have your eye on Style Me Pretty, Magnolia Rouge, or another wedding blog of that caliber, there are certain things those blogs are looking for in their publications!

So, if your goal is to get your wedding published, first of all – YAY! This makes me so happy! 🙂 I aim to shoot very editorial images. My goal is for your pictures to look like they could be in a magazine, so I love that our visions are lined up, but that means we have a lot to talk about!

Wedding publications spend a majority of a feature focusing on details and portraits for the bride and groom

Wedding publications spend the majority of a feature focusing on two groups of pictures: details, and portraits of the bride and groom. Knowing that, we’ll want to take extra time and care in curating those images.

Details include everything from flowers, centerpieces, jewelry, shoes, and anything else of the sort. For inspiration on details, look through the blogs you admire. Do the blogs have anything in common? Most blogs specifically love lush flowers (the big trend right now is the oblong shaped bouquet – like the one below), and anything that has a story or meaning behind it.

Get your wedding published, what do blogs look for in a wedding feature

Do the blogs you love have anything in common?

Putting extra thought and effort into those details will make it more likely that you’ll get your wedding published. Are you wearing your mother’s earrings that she wore on her wedding day? Did you choose to include a specific flower because they are the first flowers he ever bought you? All of this makes for a story the blog can write about.

Besides the initial design work in putting together thoughtful and intricate details, there are a few more things you can do to help your chances of getting your wedding published. Since most of those details will be documented in the “getting ready” phase of the day, it can be really helpful to get ready in a place where there are places with a lot of natural light. Get ready in a room with multiple windows, a clean color, and designate a bridesmaid to make sure things are tidy!

Blogs want to get communicate the overall feel of your day

Blogs really want to get the overall feel of your day. That includes pictures of the event spaces before guests get there. That being said, you’ll want to make sure that the reception hall is closed to guests during the cocktail hour so that we’ll have time to take plenty of pictures of the space, the centerpieces and favors before your guests sit down and enjoy themselves. If you are planning to wait to see each other until after the ceremony, we’ll want to make sure the reception is set up well before the ceremony so we can take pictures before all of the events happen!

Also, I want to make sure we have plenty of time with the couple! Bride and Groom portraits are the other set of pictures that carry a lot of weight. I have found that the best couple’s pictures come when it is just the couple and I. Having your bridal party or family there can add pressure and I want you to feel 100% comfortable!

The best advice I could give is this – hire a planner who shares your vision

If you are reading all of this, and you are thinking, “I really want to get my wedding published, but I am not great at planning details,” don’t be afraid to ask for help. I want to help however I can! I always laugh that I’m never short on opinions, and I am happy to offer advice on how certain things will photograph; from colors, to flowers, and bridesmaid dresses, to venue, I will do whatever I can to help you get your wedding published.

Honestly though, the best advice I could give you is this – hire a planner who shares your vision. A skilled wedding planner will be gifted at executing a theme throughout your wedding that is cohesive and detailed – which is exactly what wedding publications want.

I can’t wait to be a part of your wedding – LET’S GET YOUR WEDDING PUBLISHED!
