Summit Country Day Wedding | Sally + Jim

Posted in: Weddings

When my team and I are on the way to a wedding, I like to try to give them a run down of what to expect. I read to them the things the couple have told me about themselves, about their likes, dislikes, and what is important to them. After all, I’ve spent the last year chatting with them.

By the time the wedding day arrives, I feel like I’m describing old friends. This was especially true for Sally and Jim.

One thing I told my team, is that you’d never meet a couple that is more genuine and kind. I told them that Jim is the type of person that makes you feel welcomed, and like everything you say is interesting. They heard me talk about how excited Sally was, and how much thought she’d put into every detail. I told them to watch for the way Jim looks at Sally, because you can tell that he adores her. They definitely heard more than once about how much their family means to me, and how I wanted to make sure every detail was perfect for them!

I first met Sally when I shot her sister’s wedding in 2017. After I saw how sweet Sally was, and Jim’s dance moves at the reception, I knew I wanted to be a part of their wedding some day too!

A little over two years prior to their engagement, Jim and Sally visited his family’s home in Longboat Key, a place now near and dear to both of their hearts. During their initial trip there together, Jim suggested they go to a nearby restaurant on the bay where the larger boats dock because it’s known for its beauty. When they arrived at the restaurant two years ago, Jim had initially asked her to go inside to get drinks, but what Sally didn’t realize is that he had sneakily coordinated a sunset cruise on one of the most beautiful wooden sailboats. As soon as Sally walked outside, he surprised her with a sunset cruise complete with drinks and snacks on this beautiful ship.

Two years later, they had made plans to go to the same restaurant and Sally was looking forward to getting some food and enjoying the sunset again in the same place. As they walked up to the restaurant, Jim commented “No way! Is that the boat?!” Jim is very sentimental, and while she swore it couldn’t have been, he was right! They boarded the ship with an elaborate story and it was there, on the bow of the boat, that Jim proposed!

Soon after, they began planning their Summit Country Day Wedding

Sally has an incredible eye for design, and a love for neutral colors that could give me a run for my money. Jim and Sally wanted their Summit Country Day Wedding to be romantic, and sophisticated with a fun edge. Their wedding reception was held at one of my favorite Cincinnati Wedding Venues, The Cincinnati Country Club! Jim and his family have been members there for years. The clean aesthetic of the white walls and big windows just melt me!

Sally + Jim, thank you for asking me to capture this day for you! It was perfect!
