Inviting Children To Your Wedding: Pro’s and Con’s

Posted in: For Clients

Inviting Children to Your Wedding,

This is one of those blogs that I have been wanting to write forever.

Every couple has to address the question of whether or not you’ll be inviting children to your wedding festivities.

You and your fiancé should always go with your gut on issues like this, but if you are looking for a little insight from someone who attends weddings regularly, I’m going to share my thoughts on this ongoing debate!

Attendance:

Pro: Having more people to celebrate

One thing that is obviously really neat, is having all of your family and friends to be part of your wedding day. A wedding is a celebration of family, so it seems fitting to have children there!

Con: Many times, making the guest number count double

In many cases, inviting children to your wedding could nearly doubled your guest list. When you are working with a venue with a limited capacity, or if you are budget conscious, inviting children to your wedding may not be the most practical way to approach the day.

Overall Vibe:

Pro: Family Friendly

Many people love watching little kids run around and chase each other at the reception. Let’s be honest, there isn’t anything much cuter than seeing a little toddler getting down on the dance floor. Inviting kids definitely is sure to be a laugh at some point! Plus, the parents might thank you for not having to pay for a baby sitter!

Con: Getting the Party Started

It’s been my experience that events where children have been invited tend to be on the mellow side. When kids are running around and sliding around on their knees, the adults hesitate to get on the dance floor. Adults won’t drink, knowing they have to drive home because they can’t call a cab. Because of bed times, the guests tend to leave earlier. Overall, it’s more of a struggle to let loose and enjoy the party. By making your wedding adults only, people can treat it more like the date night!

I never want to tell anyone what to do on their wedding day. It’s their day, and they deserve it to be perfect and exactly how they want it to be. Whatever you decide, make sure you do what fits your vision for your day best! Whether that means inviting children to your wedding or not!
