Do I Need An Engagement Session?

You may think that an engagement session is the same, regardless of who is doing it.

Many times, I’ll hear clients say things like “We have a friend that can take our engagement pictures”.

The reality is this: your engagement session serves more than one purpose. It’s not just to have pictures for your save the dates, or to have cute pictures of the two of you. Your engagement session is a trial run.

Your engagement session serves as a way for me to get to know you and your fiancé better. It is a time for me to figure out what poses work the best for you, and learn the little things like which side you think is your “good side”.

Your engagement session is a chance for me to teach you some of the things I’ll ask you to do on your wedding day. Many times, I ask people to do things that seem silly. When you see that the silly thing turned out to be super cute, it builds confidence. It makes you that much more willing to “work it” on your wedding day!

It will give you a clear idea of what your wedding pictures will look like!

I even encourage my clients to do their hair and make up trial runs before their engagement session. In doing so, you are able to get a clear idea of what your make up will look like on your wedding day and how it will photograph. Different styles of photography will photograph things differently, so it’s important to note what you like, and what you want to tweak the big day!

So when you are asking yourself “Do I need an engagement session?” the answer is yes! Once you find a photographer who you love and feel comfortable with, do yourself a favor, and do an engagement session with that same photographer! You’ll be so glad you did!
